I am hot and heavy on my BowFlex project. Henc showed up with some
really good looking emitter disks from his CnC machine and I have the
parts assembled for the pickup. I used a Microsoft USB ball mouse for
the donor parts. After dissecting a bunch of them, this was the best
candidate.
My grand daughter is going to be here for spring break and she is
dabbling with writing video games (a school thing). I hope I get this
going by then.

Bayliner 180 BR with outboard. Or the 185 BR with stern drive. Would probably go with larger engine (4.3 liter) rather than the standard 3.0 that comes with the 175 BR.
They are only 6 inches longer but 8 inches wider and a higher freeboard. Weigh about 25 percent more. Same deadrise on all at 19 degrees.
Would the 18 be worth the extra 7 or 8 grand??

In my opinion, probably not unless you want to carry more people or
more gear. In order to be reasonably dry and reasonably comfortable
in rough seas you really need something like a 25 or 26 Grady White
that has a lot of deadrise. Even my old Bertram 33 which was a superb
rough water boat had its limits.

Speaking of rough water boats, I was driving out of our neighborhood
today behind a guy who was trailering a very large center console,
probably over 35 ft long. It was powered by triple 400 hp Mercs. I
didn't even know they made a 400.

I have heard about the 400 but never saw one.
There is some kid in here with a rich momma who fancies himself to be
a boat broker. He has a nice looking 36' with Twin F350s. He says it
runs out about 65. That trip 400 boat must be well over 80.
This kid wheels and deals boats all the time.
He always has something inappropriate up here ;-)

That cruise is definitely on my bucket list. People who have done
that run say the Florida panhandle area is some of the best cruising
anywhere. One of the challenges is what is known as the "Big Bend"
area of Florida, which because of shallow water, forces you to run
offshore from Clearwater up towards Panama City. Nothing we haven't
done before but you need to wait for the right weather window and then
run all night. Once you get to Panama City you can run inside on the
the Gulf Coast ICW all the way to New Orleans if you choose.

Right now however I'm salivating at the very real possibility of
cruising to Cuba. The regulatory and insurance issues are rapidly
improving and it looks like there is a very real chance of being able
to go sometime in the near future.

We don't have anything like that in the works, but right now we're going to Pohick
Bay camping for the weekend. Time to 'de-winterize'.

The weather has been great here for the last week or two. Yesterday I
turned the pool heater back on for the season.

Friday was great, yesterday the temp went down and the wind came up, and today we
even had a bit of snow. Crazy.

Camping trip went well, however, and nothing broke.

Try carpetting your garage floor. Indoor/outdoor stuff is cheap. Nuts and bolts are
easy to find. Dust is held to a minimum.

Having had both a stern drive and an outboard, if I were buying right now, I'd
definitely go with the outboard. I can't tell you if it's worth the extra money for
the 18'er, but if you've a chance to go outboard, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Trouble with the outboard model is that you can't add the optional extended swim platform. That could come in handy re-boarding us or the dog.

Make that a 17 and a half foot Bayliner....and if you include it's extended swim platform it would be 19 and a half feet.
On the other hand I haven't totally written of negotiating for the 18 footer before they deliver my boat in May.
I'll either go to the Moncton Boat, RV and Sportsman show next month or travel to the dealership over on Princess Edward Island to agonize over the pros and cons of both boats.
