Yeah, I don't download "torrents" or music/video files from usenet sources. I have "jailbroke" my iPhone a few times, but only after the jailbreaks have been available for a couple of weeks, and the reports are that they are clean. I tend to install the same JB apps I've used in the past, and under the same circumstances. |

There is some obscure "ripped from vinyl" stuff you will only find on the usenet binary groups. You can usually find very good rips on Amazon of things with commercial value. If you just want "radio" grade music with any popular following, it is usually on you tube. The actual quality will vary on that. It seems fine for playing in the car or out by the pool. I tend to install the same JB apps I've used in the past, and under the same circumstances. In my younger days, I admit that I did some torrenting. I never got a virus that I was aware of, but as you mentioned above, I was careful what I downloaded. Never download something that doesn't have any reviews, and even if it does, take them with a grain of salt. Its not that hard to tell fake reviews/comments from real ones. I never got into the UseNET binaries. Nowadays, with Netflix, Amazon Prime and three Redbox's within two miles of my house, there's really no need to spend the time or waste the space with torrented movies. I always root my phones... But I wait until I see what happens to everyone else that does it. Sometimes the wrong method is very unhealthy for the phone! |

Some of those folks take a bit of pride in what they put up. If you get Total Recorder" or some other similar program you can save that audio stream. There are also some you tube specific recorders. I like Total Recorder because if you hear it on your speakers you can save it. It actually saves the digital input to the sound card tho. Obviously, garbage in garbage out but you have something to work with. I also have Sound Forge so I can sweeten it up a bit if I need to (like remove tape hiss and pops from old vinyl) |

One of the challenges is what is known as the "Big Bend" area of Florida, which because of shallow water, forces you to run offshore from Clearwater up towards Panama City. Nothing we haven't done before but you need to wait for the right weather window and then run all night. Once you get to Panama City you can run inside on the the Gulf Coast ICW all the way to New Orleans if you choose. Right now however I'm salivating at the very real possibility of cruising to Cuba. The regulatory and insurance issues are rapidly improving and it looks like there is a very real chance of being able to go sometime in the near future. |
