With the mass shooting in California last week focusing attention on
terrorism and guns, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy of Connecticut announced on
Thursday that he would sign an executive order that would bar people on
federal terrorism watch lists from buying firearms in the state.

Mr. Malloy said Connecticut would become the first state in the nation
to have such a measure.

“Like all Americans, I have been horrified by the recent terrorist
attacks in San Bernardino and Paris,” said Mr. Malloy, a Democrat. “This
should be a wake-up call to all of us. This is a moment to seize in
America — and today I’m here to say that we in Connecticut are seizing it.”

Connecticut already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country,
including measures enacted in 2013 after the massacre at Sandy Hook
Elementary School in Newtown in 2012. In that attack, a gunman killed 20
schoolchildren and six staff members before killing himself.

Received the following "alert" yesterday from GOAL, a MA based gun
ownership advocacy group.

Seems that our Republican governor, Charlie Baker, has come out in
support of MA Representative Lori Ehrich's bill to do away with due
process for MA citizens who appear on one or more of the federal watch
lists.

Opponents claim:

1. There is zero statutory criteria or due process for inclusion on the
lists.
2. These lists would be run by unelected officials with no oversight
and no accountability.
3. Should your name wind up on the lists you will be virtually
powerless to find out why you are on it, or to have it removed.
4. The government is not required to tell you why you are on the lists.
5. There is no due process, no right to a trial, nothing, you can wind
up on the lists and lose your rights.

Funny thing is that Edward Kennedy was on the "watch list".

I must be clean. I had to have another background check done to get
a license to drive the old fart van.

A standard "background check" might not pop a watch list entry. Buying
a plane ticket might be a better test.

This post does point out my only concern about this proposed law. The
lists are flawed and there is no easy way to fix the errors. It is not
unlike the lists of dead people that get generated by the government
and can't seem to be fixed.

If they fixed the dead people lists, the Democrats would never win an election in
Chicago, and elsewhere!

The problem I am talking about is when the government decides a person
who is alive is dead. That is a nightmare and very hard to fix.
Anything connected to your SS# just stops working. You can't get on a
plane, open a bank account, get a tax refund etc. Your credit score
goes to zero and you might not be able to renew your driver's license.

Just showing up and saying "I am alive" does not help.

And then we have $1.2 billion of SS going to epode over 116 years old.
