Default Johnson 2004 90hp 4 stroke outboard check engine light

Hello this is my first thread, I have a 2004 Johnson 4 stroke outboard engine that starts runs for 2k's then alarm buzzer and engine check light come on and stay on (buzzer does go off at the timed time it switches off) but light stays on it still runs fine until I switch it off. Then when I restart it it won't start for about 5 minutes and the buzzer and light come back on unless I reboot computer by disconnecting battery and reconnecting then it will again run for a short time untill alarm and buzzer come back on. My Dealer I purchased the engine from doesn't know what is wrong with it and charged me $170.50 to put a thermostat in it. I think it might be the CMP sensor (camshaft position sensor) that might be the culprit as it has fuel to run and it also has spark which doesn't fail when the light and buzzer come on is there anyone who can help me with this problem?

You need to find an outboard tech who really knows how to analyze a
problem and stands behind his work. A little exploratory work with an
IR temperature gun should reveal if it is a real overheat problem or
just a sensor/computer issue.
