Anyone have any suggestions on the removal of cosmoline from my newly
acquired Mosin-Nagant?

John there's lots of step-by-step vids of disassembly, cleaning and inspection of the M-N on youtube. A bunch of em.

Which ever way, will be messy. Best I ever saw, was in the Air Force, when
we cleaned m16 after the range. Would have worked for cosmoline also.
Big tanks of solvent. You could put the whole weapon in and scrub it.

Swede Mauser is a great rifle but if you really want something that nobody else seems to have, go for a Schmidt-Rubin 'straight pull'
