Which ever way, will be messy. Best I ever saw, was in the Air Force, when
we cleaned m16 after the range. Would have worked for cosmoline also.
Big tanks of solvent. You could put the whole weapon in and scrub it.

Damn! I sure wish I were young enough to join the Air Force!
