Was not even forecast. The pool contractor was replacing the skimmer because of a leak and cracking. Left the bags of concrete on the patio even. When I woke up this morning and realized we are having rain covered up the concrete. Hell, the newspaper was wet. No plastic bag. Weather people missed this call. We had our first rain in months, earlier in the week, and was very minor. To cold and wet to go outside for long. |

We're about do for something like that on our pool. |

We're about do for something like that on our pool. Will do. The pool was remodeled about 8 years ago. Contractor did not put enough rebar in the skimmer, and the glue job leaked. Enough water washes away the support for the concrete and the skimmer cracked from the pool itself. |

I just got some waterproof epoxy and fixed the crack in mine. I figure I can always cut it out and replace it but the epoxy was worth a shot. A year later, it is good. I did drain the pool down a little, it was already at the crack, cleaned up the plastic well with PVC (pipe) cleaner, scuffed it up a bit with 150 grit and laid in the epoxy. http://gfretwell.com/ftp/skimmer%20repair.jpg This had the pipe to the bottom leaking at the skimmer. Caused the skimmer concrete to break away from the wall. |

I went out of my way to leave a patch of grass near that side of the pool, just so repairs like that would be a bit less destructive. Skimmers are the #1 suspect for a pool leak In inches, how much H2O are you losing per day? I am not leaking now but the crack was taking out about 1/5-1/4" a day. That is not a lot maybe 60-80 gallons but it was still a nagging problem. Several people in our immediate area have pools. At least one has a pool *and* an auto sprinkler system *and* an electronic fence for his mutts. Hardly a week goes by without a service van in his driveway to service his pool, sprinklers or dog fence. Especially the sprinklers and dog fence. Even though his pool is fenced, it is visible from the road. In the four years he has had it, I have never seen one person in it. ![]() -- There’s no point crying over spilled 4-Methylcyclohexanemethanol. |

Skimmers are the #1 suspect for a pool leak The original leak was where the bottom pipe connected to the skimmer. Did not realize that was the leak. Pressure check did not find anything. A pool guy I met at the crab season opening party, said to use PC10 underwater epoxy to seal the pipe. But by this time, the whole concrete structure had cracked from the wall. If it breaks the pipe to the bottom of the pool as it gets deep in the ground, he said just seal the bottom drain and let the pool sweep get the leaves and dirt. Seal the drain and cap off the pipe at the skimmer. The original remodel of the pool contractor did not put much rebar connecting the skimmer concrete to the pool. |
