I suspect we will all have transponders in our cars soon anyway and the whole tag thing will be an anachronism. The cops will have the id if every car and likely driver they get close to popping up on their computer. They already have tag scanners that do that on the fender but it is somewhat flawed by the artistic designs if the tags. Here insurance proof is electronic. No insurance, no tag, don't even have to show a paper copy. Insurance lapses, tag is deemed invalid, LEO runs the tag, finds out that uninsured and therefore tag is invalid, go to jail, car towed. Cite? I know that may be what the law says but I bet it doesn't happen. To hell it doesn't! Here you go, check it out. Second row down, far right. Make sure you have the date as 11/18/2013. Then fifth row, fifth from the left. ****, I've lived here many many years, yet you act like you know more about the laws and the LEO's actions regarding them than I do! It's automatic, no insurance, tag shows as expired immediately. http://www.gwinnettmugs.com/ Do you mean this one NO PROOF OF INSURANCE DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED LICENSE SUSP TAG SEATBELT VIOLATIONS Or this one NO PROOF INS SUSP REGISTRATION SUSPENDED/REVOKED LIC LICENSE: DRIVING WHILE UNLICENSED OR EX Somehow I doubt the lack of insurance is why they went to jail. Oh, hell, I've tried to tell you, when your insurance goes, so goes your tag, thus suspended. Find me one where the only charge is a lack of insurance (perhaps with some minor traffic violation) and I will believe you. These people were arrested for driving without a valid driver's license. You won't find one with just lack of insurance because as I've said over and over, lack of insurance electronically generates suspended registration. I completely realize that you know more about the laws in this state than someone who lives here, so: http://tinyurl.com/k72pxmo http://tinyurl.com/882qqnt That says: Not having insurance is a misdemeanor. The minimum fine is $200.00. For a first offense your driver's license will be suspended for 60 days. For a second offense within a five year period, your driver's license along with your license tag and tag registration will be suspended for 90 days. If no new insurance information is received within the thirty-day (30) time period allowed, a thirty-day (30) "Notice of Pending Suspension" will be printed and mailed to the vehicle?s registered owner advising the owner that their vehicle?s registration is subject to suspension. This letter will include what is required to avoid suspension and fines. Important: Driving a vehicle with a cancelled, suspended or revoked registration is a misdemeanor and may result in the impoundment of the vehicle by law enforcement when discovered. Notice if you will, "impoundment of the vehicle". Of course, you full well know that bond can be required for just about anything in Georgia, and is MOST of the time when it's insurance, and registration related. I see nothing there about going to jail, as you stated. Are you making stuff up again? John H. -- Hope you're having a great day! |
