Jacksonville, Florida, still has a high school named after Nathan
Bedford Forrest, a Confederacy general, a founder and first grand wizard
of the Ku Klux Klan, and the officer who was accused of slaughtering
hundreds of black northern soldiers after they surrendered.

When we lived in northern Florida, there were efforts underway to
get the name of the school changed, and I thought by now it would have
happened.

That is sort of ironic isn't it? Think about the guy the city was
named after and ask native Americans what they think about that. Some
won't even take a $20 bill.

You sound like the people here in Lee County who are so upset about a
picture of General R.E. Lee. I think they want to replace it with one
of these.

Though he fought for the wrong side, Robert E. Lee was a principled man
and after the war, he acquitted himself admirably. He sure as hell
didn't help found and serve as a leader of the Ku Klux Klan, even though
he was opposed to extending voting rights to blacks. Of course, today's
GOP wants to remove those rights.

I understand why the high school in Jax should be renamed. The name is
an insult to Americans of good will.

But screw the concerns of native americans. That doesn't sound like
you.

Old Hickory was never one of my favorites. My political pursuits tend to
center around what is reasonable, possible, do-able. It is easy to
change the name of a high school. Not so a city.

The Army has many forts named after Confederate generals, none of whom were really opposed to
slavery. The Union Army, in its prisons, slaughtered many, many Confederate soldiers who had
surrendered.

Write to your president. He'll fix it, like he has all the other bull**** he promised to fix.

Let's see....are we out of Guantanamo yet? Here's a real goody:

Greg, I'm surprised you let that last sentence stand. For some reason, today's Liberals consider the
showing of an ID card, such as their driver's license that they use to buy beer, a 'removal' of
voter's rights.

Such horse****.

Lee was a proponent of having the former slaves shipped back to Africa.

Oh, it stops black votes... but only the second, third, fourth,
firth....and sixth vote. It also stops folks who aren't supposed to be
voting, not even once.
