Also wondering if you could elaborate on your stance and cover at the time? I am not sure if I hit the guy or not. He did stop shooting. I didn't see anything in the paper. That is what made me want to upgrade my equipment (a .22 SNS at the time) and work on some better training. The first time I was shot at was in the early 1960s. I had a small grant to report on a group of college students who went south during spring break to help rebuild a church that had been set on fire by the klan and also to help register voters. One night after a day of taking photos and doing interviews, we were heading back to where we were staying when the car we were in came under attack. It was a white Oldsmobile driven by a local official of the black Deacons for Defense and Justice. The car doors were peppered with bullet holes, but no one was hurt. Our driver returned fire and thought he had hit someone. The afternoon paper the next day had an article about a local who had been hit by a "stray bullet" while night hunting. Right where we were attacked. I was the real hero in that shooting. I got behind the other side of the car and stayed low. :) A group of us were roughed up a bit the next day in town. We weren't non-violent. I had the school's Nikon F with me, and it was on a wide web strap. I swung it and smashed it against the side of the head of one of the good old boys who was swinging at us with his fists. Put a small dent in the camera. Ahh, the good old days. |

I also do this from the decocked condition. Your follow up shots are more traditional aimed fire but these days, you probably have legal problems with a second shot if your first one hit at all.. I agree with Hank to some degree. If you shoot someone 25 yards away, you are going to have a hard time claiming self defense.. Yup, and every bit of that training goes out the window as soon as the perp shoots back and you turn away from him... But I guess it's cool to pretend:) I have been shot at. I hear green is the in color now It amazes me that an allegedly thinking person is positive that his family is going to make it in motocross!! Like musicians, there are thousands and thousands of very good ones, better than lots that have made it that never get the chance. It has a lot about luck. But then again, if you don't have the skills or determination to get a decent job to take care of your family, all you have is those pipe dreams. |
