I agree that the state should stay out of it... the schools shouldn't be teaching gun safety. That should be left up to the family. My dad taught me how to handle a gun safely... what to do, and not do. Unfortunately, many families these days don't have anything resembling a responsible parent to do that. That's why we see the gun violence we now have.

Schools should teach the three R's, and in your case, civic responsibility. Like how to pay your taxes, deadbeat harold. If you do, maybe one day you can have your name on a house again.

Speaking of which, I often wonder what happened to kids just learning by
watching others around them? I grew up on a farm in the sticks, and just
learned. Most things were just considered common sense. No one took me
to a firing range and taught me how to use a rifle or shotgun. I just
knew by watching and observing. Same with driving a tractor. No one gave
me "lessons". I'd sit on the tractor fender and watch and learn, waiting
for my time at the wheel. I watched as my two older brothers got to
drive first, and waited until one day my uncle said, "pull the tractor
over there". Of course, I soon learned it was actually a curse during
potato planting (cold and rainy) and harvesting (cold and rainy). It
just seems that now kids need to have a sit down formal teaching for
everything.
