We were in the original YMCA building before they built the 2 new ones. If so, that original YMCA must have been the one that I took lessons and got SCUBA certified in 1966. It was through a club called, "The Yankee Paddlers". Course was given by ex-Navy divers, (renamed Navy Seals in 1961). No, Washington, D.C. The 'Y' in New Haven was on Chapel and Howe, I think. Used to go there many Saturdays with a couple of buddies in the winter to use the gym, play pickup b'ball, and go swimming. It was a two block walk from the bus stop. The Y was down the street from Hulls Hobbies, another great place to hang out. |
