All that said I see people in Crocs but usually on the street in KW,
not kicking around a camp ground.

Aside from their funky look, Crocs are very practical footwear at the
beach or in the dinghy. They do tend to trap sand but it is easy to
remove by sloshing your feet around in the water.

I was more thinking about walking around on the campground itself.
This is just going to be a coral rock desert, not a watery place. It
is not really sand, more like "87" gravel made up of petrified shell
fragments.

I have all sorts of footwear for use on land. My concern was for foot
protection in the waters of the Keys where sandy beaches are non existent.

If I was wading I think I would get those slipper style water shoes. I
was always in deep water and had my flippers on 99% of the time.
The park at Bahia Honda does have one of those rare sand beaches I
believe.
If you are not barefooted a lot and have a good sense of what you are
stepping on you probably should us the slippers tho.
Watch out for sting rays. Shuffle your feet along the bottom when you
walk. If you step on a sting ray you might get to see the Fisherman's
Hospital in Marathon. ;-)

Shuffle feet. Yes. Good advice. ;-)
