I'm going to be canoe fishing a small lake that is about 100 feet deep
& will probably have lake & rainbow trout suspended. I've got a downrigger that I bought for a 15' rowboat but never used. I'm considering hooking it up to my canoe [15' Coleman workhorse]. The weights I have are 5pounders-- I think for what I'm doing [no fast trolling, and nothing deeper than 100] I should be able to use a much lighter weight. [8ounces? 1 pound?] I have a fishfinder but I've been frustrated in the past trying to get at suspended fish from my canoe. My thoughts/plans are to use the downrigger to guarantee my depth for some trolling, or to get to depth for some jigging. Has anyone had good/bad experiences fishing with a downrigger in a canoe?
