Agreed.

I was bricking up a wall, thinking about John out on the course and
being a little envious.

Obviously the dragon's teeth on the far end means "watch this space".
We are not sure what's next on that end of the patio. It will probably
be another deck and covered area like the tiki bar on the other side.

I didn't look that closely, but...

I think I see mortar of some sort under the first course at the bottom,
but I don't see any in the joints in the other courses. Are you using
something other than mortar? Did you remember the brick ties?

For a moment or two, I thought maybe you were using ersatz lightweight
brick, but...you wouldn't do that! Would you?

Hoo boy!!!! Here you go, trying to make yourself look like you know what
you're talking about, and make yourself look really stupid in the
process!

That is just shims to get the first course straight. I am going to
grout that when everything is set and pressure clean the brick.

Brick pavers, mortared to the block wall with flex thin set.

This is my wife setting the flag stones, you can see the wall behind
her.

http://gfretwell.com/electrical/addi...0them%20in.jpg

We have the paver wall motif going on all over..
My shed
http://gfretwell.com/electrical/bric...ed%20house.jpg

The fireplace I thought would never work (it was the smiling lady's
idea). The pavers never exploded.

http://gfretwell.com/ftp/JUDYFIR2.jpg

I finished it off after a few years of fires and no explosions.

This all started when Centex replaced all the driveways in a community
and they had one yard bags of these pavers going to the dump. I ended
up with thousands of pavers, looking for a use.

You're an ambitious guy!

I thought I was off the hook for a while, what with the deck and the
replacement of a slider with a double french door and the installation
of a storm door, but...a few weeks ago, I got talked into filling the
space between our fireplace mantle and the fireplace with green-black
ubatuba granite tiles.

That should take all of a couple of hours.

Looks very nice...but the golf was probably more enjoyable.

Did you break 80?

I break 80 every time I play.

No problem. Is the taxpayer paying for the endeavor? Someone goes out in a
flooding river in a kayak and needs to be rescued, they should have to pay
the tab. I run white water rivers. When one of us types screw up, we or
the insurance we pay for has to recover the boat. Is not the local
emergency responders that do the recovery.

Who recovers *you* if you fall into the water? And are you claiming that
your insurance claim is not shared with everyone else when their
premiums go up to cover your losses?

It's shrinking. Sweat equity has nothing to do with it. Lots of people
in the lower socio-economic level work very hard and try and save.

Many people in the middle class take tennis lessons and play bridge.

It used to be that middle class was defined by relatively stable
economic situations, but more and more people are losing their homes
and going hungry even. You may not be "truly wealthy," but you're
certainly not in the middle. Someone who has a boat they use as a
second, vacation home and travel around, seemingly endlessly, someone
who has two fridges on their boat for God Sake, isn't really middle
class, at least not compared to the vast majority of people.

You are one of the people who told me "middle class" was $100k, or was
it $125k and above when I asked the question.

What's that got to do with Wayne pimping his huge trawler as his
second home?

You're now claiming middle class doesn't include those who make
$100K/yr?

If you're caught in a river and have to be rescued, who's going to pay
the local responder? Your insurance company? Not a chance.

If someone's child is critically injured, the EMTs will be called.
They don't ask for a credit card before they treat someone, at least
not yet, but that might change if the right wing nuts get their way.

I'd guess $100,000 was at the top level of what could be called middle
income. Middle class is a much misused term; I'm not sure what it
*really* means anymore.

People who spend half their year cruising on a posh 50' yacht are
neither middle income nor middle class.

Another boater would rescue me. I would be dead before the local responders
arrived. The insurance rate is calculated on losses for the type of boat.
Probably less loss on our boats per boat than the local Chesapeake boaters.
Seems as if you guys are getting insurance to pay for new motors, etc.
