Default In search of cool water

Today, we went in search for the fabled "Water cooler than body
temperature" eschewing my usual springs and sinks for some tiny ponds
I used to know about. Wandering down deep sand roads in the scrub
woods in 100 degree heat, oh, that was the humidity, the temp was only
99. Finally the road ends so we take off on foot down ancient fire
trails scanning the ground for rattlers wishing to god I'd brought
some ice water to drink. AHHHHH, there it is, that tiny sand bottom
pond I remember from 30 years ago. Step in and..................WTF,
this water is effin HOT. Either we are getting some unusual N.
Florida vulcanism or I am remembering this wrong. Wade deeper,
ohhhhh, a serious thermocline. About knee deep, the water round my
feet finally get cool. In N. FL summer, you accept whatever cooling
you can get.

Come up here and bring a splash pool. The water that comes out of my
well is about 54F year around. Good quality, too.

I thought you didn't own your property.

Sorry, Frogwatch here.
It's crazy, just a few weeks ago, I was bitchin about the heat in the
Bahamas and that was cool by comparison to the heat here now in
Tallahassee but I sit out in the heat after chopping down some trees
thinking it is "acceptable". Next week, we will be in WY for three
weeks where it will be seriously cool. The lakes there are icy by
comparison. Then back here for scallop season in the superheated Gulf
of Mexico.

Frogwatch he
Whenever I go thru a N. FL summer where it is 100/100/0 (Temp/Humidity/
Wind speed), I wonder "Were my ancestors FU*&%ng nuts? Can you
imagine putting up with this in the clothing they wore? They didn't
even have ice. They had no screens on their windows.
As a kid, I can remember not having AC and not even caring about ice
water but we dressed appropriately wearing nearly nothing and swam all
summer. Those crazies did not swim much and wore awful clothing and
rarely bathed..............ehhhhhhhhhhh.

When I was working at Cape Canaveral we'd go to some springs where there was a
big pool. Don't remember the name...Crystal Springs, something. Silver Springs?
Don't remember - it was about 45 years ago. Damn, I'm getting older every day.

Anyway, the water was downright chilly. Great stuff!
