The general was an out-of-control asshole whose mission, the one he designed and implemented, was failing. He has a long history of shooting off his mouth. He also has a booze problem, and wasn't he the general who covered up the Tillman cluster****? Generals are a dime a dozen. Obama let him resign rather than fire him so that the general could keep that fourth star and the benefits it brings. The general had no class. The president does have class. |

Truman/McArthur, Lincoln fired several before finding Grant, Johnson fired Lemay, McKinley fired Lemay, etc. Bush fired Shinseki for telling the truth at a congressional hearing where he was under oath. Does that count? |

They really can't order him to resign but they can make it the most attractive option. Usually, in these situations, the guy actually wants the freedom to speak freely so he goes. I just hope we don't have to hear the "old soldier" speech. I imagine he will be doing the Sunday shows the weekend after he is separated. Then we will hear what he really thinks. I think we already know what he "really thinks." The point is that it was insubordination, and that can't be tolerated in the command staff. |
