Whoops, here's the URL. http://www.ericsonyachts.org/infoexc...ead.php?t=4096 On a 30 yr old boat, you expect some things like this. Even if the strut broke, the shaft could not go anywhere but would probably exhibit some balance problems. So you shut the engine down and use sails. I have had the fore hatch replaced, replaced all the standing (wire) rigging (truly expensive), running rigging (dacron rope), lifelines, all instruments twice, new sails, new lighting. After this trip, I will prob need to replace the two opening windows. The gelcoat died many years ago and nothing brings it back. It chalks like crazy in spite of heavy polishing. It will need painting but I am loathe to do so because most paint jobs I have seen eventually got worse than the dead gelcoat. I MIGHT try the System 3 WR155paint I used on my Tolman because it seems tough although it is not glossy. |
