MSNBC is saying it might even be 5 times that (~500k). Disasters in 3d world countries are always bad because they don't have building codes or the resources to respond to disasters like this. The building code issue should be a wake up call for the US too. We have lots of fault lines in the US that are NOT in California. Most of the US lives with a building code that assumes all loads are going to be straight down. From a Florida perspective, it is why I am not shocked when a little dust devil (they call a tornado) goes through the Mid Atlantic states and rips their houses up. An earthquake that would not even make a Californian look out the window, would destroy a large number of buildings in Memphis and St Louis (The New Madrid zone) Oh gosh... I haven't been watching the reports. I hope we (as a people) can help those poor people. Why do you try to contribute something to the Red Cross? |

It can be done via several places including the US State Dept. I believe. I was thinking that the US (and other) militaries will get involved, and they are doing that, apparently. -- Nom=de=Plume |

I believe cruise ships volunteered during Katrina... if I'm remembering that right. Ground transportation is also a problem. Today they were saying the airport was full of stuff coming off planes but they had no way to get it into town. They are sending a bunch of military people there to try to maintain some similance of order. I hope that doesn't get ugly. That always scares me. This could degrade to another Baghdad real fast It's got a history of getting ugly there... perhaps a breeding ground for terrorists, so all the help we can give them would surely pay off. -- Nom=de=Plume |

He said the flat top could do everything the Care could do for now. He did note that if needed the Care could be sent in too... |

And they are getting aid quicker to Haiti than they did in NOLA |
