First New Years resolution I ever made, to give up alcohol and drink
far less coffee. Both were giving me serious heartburn and it had
gotten so I cannot even drink beer because of it. Considering I prob
have more caffeine in my blood than hemoglobin, it had to be alcohol I
gave up but 12 cups of coffee a day probably is too much. So, with
only 3 cups in the morning and it being too cold outside to do
anything am feelin a bit tense.

Since I retired I do not drink anywhere's the amount of coffee I used to.
And still rarely drink alcohol. But one nice thing about losing the
Christmas weight gain. I am using Costco's brand SlimFast for breakfast
and lunch. Yesterday my buddy and I went up to New Melones lake for some
trout and bass fishing. We used the Hobie pedal kayaks. Was easy to
imbibe lunch while pedaling along and trolling for trout. No fooling
around with cutting bread or cheese. And only caught one nice bass.

What's the lake level like at New Melones? It was waaay low when I was
last there in August.

Don't give up two things at one time. Give up coffee or alcohol but
not both at the same time.

Good thing you've backed this up with sound reasoning.

BAR is highly educated, having served stateside in the marines and
having skipped college entirely, and therefore he is expert in substance
abuse.

Love that reasoning. Snerk.

I love it when you do a jab at jimh and his retarded son who had to
'enlist' in the marines.

Is your son still living at home, driving your car, eating your food,
drinking your beer and watching your TV? When is he going to stand on
his own two feet and get a job and live on his own?

Bertie you dumb f*ck,....you do know you're talkin' to a spoofer, don't
you?

How do you know you are talking to Bertie?

You know, you can make sandwiches ahead of time and wrap them so they
don't get soggy in the cooler. Really.

What would you suggest? PBJ?

Say what!
12 cups a day???
I drink one large cup a day..at breakfast and was thinking of cutting that
down in size.

How big is a cup?
I am probably up around 8-10 cups a day. We have a "12 cup" maker, my
wife takes 16 oz with her to work and I drink the rest throughout the
day.

I believe coffee maker cups are 6oz, whereas a normal measure is 8oz.
There are 32oz, or 4 cups in a quart.

So, your 12 cup coffeemaker actually makes only 72oz, and not 96oz as
it should.

I'd have cut out the booze, and cut way back on the coffee. Maybe only
11 cups, but they'd have to be 8oz cups, not those chintzy 6oz jobs.

Alot of stuff you enjoy is had to give up, but for the better. for me,
no more 1/2 lb hershey bars (1 a night) No more big bag of chips, or
doritos, or corn curls ( from top to the last crumb), cutting out on
salt. less beef and pork, and more fish. Eat more breakfast and less
supper.

But I ain't giving up coffee!

Don't forget chicken! But the best part, the skin, has got to go.

Rotisserie chickens, with a lot of celery and onions, make some great
soup, into which you can throw some brown rice.

Yuck. If you are going to make chicken soup, make it from scratch, the
right way. Real chicken soup requires onions, salt, bay leaves, carrots,
celery, thyme, parsley, pepper, water, and, of course, chicken, which
you cook first and then skin.

What's in your homemade tomato sauce, herring? Ketchup?

I make a pot in the morning and pour it into a vacuum flask. That way
it oxidises less and doesn't evaporate at all. It is also in arms
reach and can go on the road.
