That's one road I let loose a little. Been passed more than once doing 90 there. Always time going through there between 10AM-2PM. But that's wide enough to find a more sedate lane if you want. For some reason I like to mix it up there. Don't know I-285. Used to take the I-75 bypass (275?), but that adds too many miles. One time coming north I mistakenly took the east bypass - took forever. --Vic 285 goes around the city in a circle. At least it did until the city grew out past it! |

Now you know why, except for my son's G3.... I don't tow..... I go the speed limit usually. But then, I've hauled much larger and heavier things than my bass boat. I found myself moving along pretty good this weekend a couple of times coming home from Maine... My liberty gets **** for mileage. My new Dodge truck doesn't do too bad, but could be better especially when towing. It's got the tow package, so the rear end is geared a little lower and that doesn't help unless you are going slow. This was not on the interstae but on US27 passing thru places every 10 minutes where I'd have to slow to 35. I expect on the Interstate with cruise control at 60 mph, I would do better. That's one thing I never, ever been able to get used to, is cruise control. *I* need to be in control, for whatever reason. I also love to fly, and always wondered that if I was ever to fly a plane with autopilot how I'd handle that!!!! I love my cruise control, leaves me to concentrate on more important things like beer and bull****... I just can't do it. I've tried. My new truck has cruise. I only use it once in awhile to make sure it still works. Speaking of beer, my robust porter that I brewed awhile back is the bomb! In heavy traffic, cruise control is a real PITA. When the traffic is light, though, it is a great way to drive. Tends to reduce tickets and save gas. I set it for 10% over the limit and just relax. -- John H |

She drives slower than I do but is constantly on and off the gas pedal. |

Since I tow with a diesel, I get decent mileage. Towing the boat at 65 mph I get about 13.5 mpg. Towing at 50-55 I get about 15. Running 78 with cruise control, which I run while towing, I get about 18.5 round trip to Los Angeles. Speed limit towing in Calif is 55, but other than Wal-mart trucks, they all run about 63. |

Pfffttt. I just came back from a trip to get parts for the team. 84 to Hartford is at least 75, down South of Hartford to route 9 is about 80 down and back, down 9 to the shore is about 75 till you get nearer the end and you have to time it so you are traveling to the shore with "the money", they don't want to ticket them as they go to spend, spend, spend. Most of these figures are heavier times of the day and represent the middle and left lane and sometimes the slow lane too... I was not hauling the trailer today though... Later, gotta' go... |
