That is almost expected on I-40 west of Wilmington, NC.... otherwise you'll get run over. Then I suppose I'd be a traffic hazard, since I would not tow a boat that fast. Now you know why, except for my son's G3.... I don't tow..... I go the speed limit usually. But then, I've hauled much larger and heavier things than my bass boat. I found myself moving along pretty good this weekend a couple of times coming home from Maine... My liberty gets **** for mileage. My new Dodge truck doesn't do too bad, but could be better especially when towing. It's got the tow package, so the rear end is geared a little lower and that doesn't help unless you are going slow. This was not on the interstae but on US27 passing thru places every 10 minutes where I'd have to slow to 35. I expect on the Interstate with cruise control at 60 mph, I would do better. That's one thing I never, ever been able to get used to, is cruise control. *I* need to be in control, for whatever reason. I also love to fly, and always wondered that if I was ever to fly a plane with autopilot how I'd handle that!!!! |

Harry could tow at 70+ also if he had his trailer set up properly and extracted his head from the nether regions of his copious body. Don't know why anybody thinks they'll get "run over" doing the speed limit. I go slower than most traffic all the time. Never got "run over." Don't even hardly ever get tail-gated. But I see a lot of tail-gating happening in the string of cars passing the truck I'm usually behind. That's a little trick to keep the lemmings away. They see the truck and change lanes before they even get close to me. Plenty of steady going semi-trucks doing the limit, mile after mile. Is that "run over" thinking similar to what has folks racing up to red lights? --Vic |

Usually 3-6 cars speeding like hell. We'd change the lead now and then. Had a '61 Ventura then. Drove all night. Now I only travel in daylight, settled maybe 50-100 yards behind a semi, tapping the cruise now and then. Whole different style, but I actually do more thinking and strategizing than I did before. Keeps boredom away on those long stretches without much scenery. --Vic |

One of my cousins, a truck driver, taught me the key to making good time when I was a teenager. That is to not stop. That is what kills your time, is stopping. He had a bladder like an elephant! |

Drive on I-285 in Atlanta much? They don't call it the Atlanta 500 for nothing! Blow out the carbon on I-75 though Atlanta every year. That's one road I let loose a little. Been passed more than once doing 90 there. Always time going through there between 10AM-2PM. But that's wide enough to find a more sedate lane if you want. For some reason I like to mix it up there. Don't know I-285. Used to take the I-75 bypass (275?), but that adds too many miles. One time coming north I mistakenly took the east bypass - took forever. --Vic |
