Shepard Smith is sounding the alarm. The wingnuts are going crazy... Fox News' Shepard Smith's pretty well known -- and oft praised -- for the way he can size up a news event and expose his own authentic concern without seeming mawkish or phony. And in the wake of today's shooting at the Holocaust Museum, Smith went on the air today to talk about the emails he's been receiving for "the past few months," and how they've been getting "more and more frightening." SMITH: There are people now, who are way out there on a limb. And I think they're just out there on a limb with the email they send us. Because I read it, and they are out there. I mean, out there in a scary place...I could read a hundred of them like this...I mean from today. People who are so amped up and so angry for reasons that are absolutely wrong, ridiculous, preposterous." He went on to read an email, filled with the usual paranoid "birther" nonsense, which included an admonishment to Smith. "This is, I promise, a representative sample of the kind of things that we get here," Smith said. Time will tell if Smith's colleagues at Fox stop taking these sorts of emails casually. Smith clearly could do that no longer. There have been these kind and other events for ever. We never heard about many of them because they were not around where we live. since the advent of 24/7 news available, to every corner, from every corner, it is placing an emotional load on everyone. After a constant barrage many start to internalize and view the events as next door or down the street. There are a whole lot of people on edge, nervous, depressed, and strained by all the these events. Sensational Journalism of death and destruction draw audiences and thus advertising dollars. It doesn't matter how many Laws or security restrictions are placed on society it will still happen. There is a huge population now and even the lowest percentage is an alarming number. We have passed or on the advent of massive monitoring of Americans by every technological snooping device we have created. We are and will see less freedom, unless we start reversing it and it won't stop a lone nut in a museum. I have talked to a lot, of folks, that are experiencing a lot, of stress because of what is happening these days. Everybody is taking on this stress. this guy developed a radical bias and kept building on it until he was 89 years old. A Guard died but he was doing his job and taking the associated risk. The other Guards did what they were supposed to to stop him as quick as they could detect the problem. Forget about it and move on. Turn the damned news from Timbuktu off. We have enough problems around where we live to worry about 2000 miles away. |
