Those little yankee sailors sure got buzzed on a few local beers. Most of the local stuff was 5% but 'Ten Penny Ale' was a few points higher. Alcohol laws vary by state, and are a real mish-mash here. Some states only allow 3.2% beer by weight (equals 4% alcohol by volume). Some states only allow 3.2 beer to be sold in grocery stores, but allow higher alcohol content in "full service" outlets. In many states, higher alcohol content isn't considered "beer". It's labeled malt liquor or ale. Then you have near beer, dry counties, etc. Weird laws. |
