All kinds of restrictive laws, got to come to America to get decent, timely health care... you're under your government's thumb. That and crappy weather 10 months out of the year? No thanks. But you do have decent beer. I guess that's something. :-) |

Agree with your banking system being stable. However, I *have a problem with your last statement. *I live in Seattle and we have some of the best coffee roasters in the country, including one that's within minutes of our house. *World famous and for good reason. I will admit to having **** beer prior to the arrival of micro brews here but that's been addressed. Funny thing about the difference between American and Canadian Beer.... Years ago (in the 80's) , my Ex and I hosted her Brother bringing up their 21 pc. Big Band from the University of Kalamazoo. Three young dudes thought they'd " go get some Canadian Beer " and drink. The fellows went and bought (of all things ) some Bock Beer. Really heavy stuff (black ) at about 7.5 % alcohol. At the time, it was the heaviest stuff on the market. They didn't know what they were getting into. Watched them drink the whole 24 between 3 of them. After all was consumed, one guy wasn't fairing so well. His buddies were standing within earshot, and I was listening to them say " Look at Joe, he doesn't look too good". Next guy says " oh he's alright ". First guy starts the " he's gonna puke" thing. This went back and forth for about 3 minutes before the guy started turning green. Eventually, the dude scrambles for the can. LMAO !!! |

They were about the only one anywhere with bottles, not just barrels. Paid fifteen grand for the machinery which broke down about every ten minutes. Much more time working on it than running it. Tell us how your banking system works differently from American banks. Fundamentally it boils down to a more conservative (small c), and more risk adverse management/regulation culture that prefers long term stability to quick buck. I heard someone refer to the sub-prime/ derivatives market that whacked us: Canadian banks were up to their ankles, we were up to our necks. Something else that is interesting, Canadian mortgages are not tax deductible. Mortgages get paid down there. Here we double and triple them up. That might of had an impact on the sub-prime crisis in itself. |
