I don't like Chicago deep dish pizza, it ain't pizza, it's a
cassarole! Thin crust, brick oven, NY style!

We found *one* deli in the entire Jax area that "imported" its bread
daily from Baltimore, and it was pretty good.

I've bought decent bread at Publix. They bake on site. French and
Italian. Might be local practices. Never found the ryes or black
breads we get baked locally here.
Selection is much better in Florida than it was 10-20 years ago.
I'm talking Charlotte Harbor area.

b. the high price of produce. I really thought we'd be paying a lot less
at the grocery store for produce. Nope.

My dad is always bitching about that.

When we moved to Florida, Publix had lousy bread. I'm glad to hear it
has improved, at least in your area. We'll be in Florida later this
month, and will check it out.

I haven't found a place for a good "crusty" bread. In my area it's all
chain grocery stores and no dedicated bakeries.

No question. Florida has much to offer, but the quality of the water
isn't one of them.

When you say "quality," are you referring to perceived taste or
contaminates or both? We had municipal water in NE Florida and I don't
recall it tasting funky.

Panera is pretty good...not a local chain, but they do know how to bake
bread.

Thin, crisp crust is my pizza of choice.

True. When we started the well up for the first time it has an awful
sulfur smell. That went away but there still is dissolved limestone that
leaves water spots. Some areas have water that leaves rust colored
stains. The rain water down here is so pure and clean though. We have to
add acid to the pool water to keep the PH balanced.

It probably varies from local to local. The area we were in had private,
shallow wells and the water had a lot of sulfur and iron.
Everyone's well was equipped with an elaborate water conditioning system to
remove the iron and the sulfur stink. Even though we had a new, undated
system installed when we bought the house, we still used bottled water for
drinking and cooking. Couldn't get used to it.
