Here's what I want to know:

5% of all deaths from diseases of the circulatory system are
attributed to alcohol.

15% of all deaths from diseases of the respiratory system are
attributed to alcohol.

30% of all deaths from accidents caused by fire and flames are
attributed to alcohol.

30% of all accidental drownings are attributed to alcohol.

30% of all suicides are attributed to alcohol.

40% of all deaths due to accidental falls are attributed to alcohol.

45% of all deaths in automobile accidents are attributed to alcohol.

60% of all homicides are attributed to alcohol.

Why aren't we taxing the crap out of alcohol consumption?

ANSWER ME HENRY WAXWORM!!!

I understand that some have hidden as much as thirty cases of Trinidad
light in a fishboat.. [Some bit of French territory off NS sells booze
cheap]. Grampa said it was better in his day: The Mounties stayed away
from the parties. The rum was better, came in bigger bottles too, and
the Revenue cutters were slow.

Probably St. Pierre et Miquelon just south of Newfoundland.
If you have a sailboat you can trace this route in 2010. The race is held
every 2nd year...the off years for the Marblehead/Halifax race.

Because:

1) It would accomplish nothing.

2) Booze lobbyists would never let it happen.

Nope.

And I'm not even going to detail why because it will turn into a rant
and I'm just not up to it today - tonight - this morning - whatever.

If cigarettes are any indication, more taxes would not work. NY taxes the
bejeezus out of them and it doesn't seem to slow sales any.

Really, taxing to death does work for behavior modification.. When the
price of fuel went up, people stopped driving. They have taxed the
crap out of tobacco and many newer cars we were looking at before the
health issue don't even come stock with ashtrays or cigar lighters..
