I've seen this one before...he's one of the best amateurs I've heard,
but no one sang Nessun Dorma like Pavarotti. He could hit that A above
middle C at will and hold it.

Put a sock in it WAFA.

She is so cute, and doing so well, you go way beyond just a Scrooge, you
are an out and out crumudgin. I am always a sucker for a cute kid
excelling at something. But then again, I have 3 perfect kids, so that
might explain it.

I thought she had a very nice voice and near perfect pitch. However, I have
to admit that I find something troubling about kids that age (I think she
was six?) becoming involved in high stakes competition, pressure and/or
professional careers. They are kids for cripes sakes. Maybe I am wrong,
but if I were one of her parents, I'd encourage her to enjoy her singing,
maybe take some music and voice lessons, but keep it low-keyed until she was
in her teens.

It disturbs me that the possibility of adults influencing a kid at that age,
exploiting a talent for financial gain exists.

I agree some parents do push their kids too hard, but according to
Connie she is the one who insisted her Mom sign her up.

She really seems to be a very well adjusted kid. while my two girls
do/did very well in school, I have a son who excels academically. When
he was in high school, he took every AP class available, so that he
started college as a 1 semester junior. He had a 4 yr scholarship with
a per diem that more than covered his living expenses, so that he would
spend the summer traveling in Europe. After 2 years, he decided he
wanted to teach at the college level, and wanted to have a Ivy League
degree, so he transfered to Columbia and started over as a junior. At
no time did I push him to set his standards so high, that was just him.
In high school, I suggested he take study hall, and he was upset with
me for suggesting he take it easy.

I have the feeling this girl would have been just as upset if her
parents said she could not join the contest.
