Oh...and I'm not a short, ill-tempered, semi-literate little schitt - like you. Psssst...is that daughter of yours going to get a motorcycle racing scholarship to college? Harry, we all know you are a failure in life, that's why you must lie about every aspect of it. Perhaps it's because you are too stupid to know that being in a sport with rules, expectations, and consequences for NOT following the rules, plus the fact that it teaches you how to be competitive without being an asshole about it (something you should take to heart), does indeed teach you a lot of basics about life. That Class I picture would be major rapids here in Florida. Our scale of difficulty is due to the number of trees you have to pull your boat over and the number of snakes. I have zero interest in "competitive canoeing" or its lingo, but I do like to paddle around in a canoe on a pretty river. I've seen a few snakes swimming in the Shenandoah from time to time. I have no idea what kind they are. What's nice is fly fishing on the river from either a canoe or a raft, or just going for a swim. We launch from this spot: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...s/96c4348e.jpg We have a gravel road leading down between two parts of the river bank right down to the water. Rattlesnakes can be found throughout the mid-Atlantic states, along with copperheads. There are at least a dozen varieties of snake in this part of the country, maybe more, but not many poisonous ones. I've never seen a rattler out by the Shenandoah, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. I have seen a few copperheads. I've seen big corn snakes on my property right here, and we have an old ravine I do not walk in without wearing tall boots. The big threat out there is, incredibly, feral dogs. There are packs of dogs around, wild ones, and they attack people. Which is why it is a good idea if you are hiking to carry a sidearm. The other threats to people come from bears. There's a bear cave on the property out there. There also have been sightings of cougars, supposedly. Mostly, though, if you are careful and quiet, you will see foxes, possums, raccoons, squirrels, frogs, and, of course, all manner of birds, including some gorgeous hawks and eagles. Did you ever run across the Krausii Liesallthetime Marylandus? They tend to hide in bushes, or so I've been told. -- A Harry Krause truism: "It's not a *baby* kicking, beautiful bride, it's just a fetus!" |

He insists that everyone should be a licenced pro before you do anything, I assume he holds himself to the same standards.. . You other guys and guys like me are allowed to have fun.. No problem.. ;) The lariat holds the boat to you, a strainer is a tree or other submerged obstacle that could hold you andyour boat under water and kill you, the blade should be in a place where it won't get hooked on anything or lost, but you can get a hold of it to cut yourself out of a strainer or away from your boat within seconds, underwater, blind, first try, every time.... This particular maneuver is practiced as much as "rolling" by folks who actually "shoot the rapids"... Which I don't do intentionally at my age... Now I enjoy a nice flat paddle or at most play in the surf or wake of big boats ;) |
