Has anyone got any suggestions on providing a regulated 5V power supply on
board for my PDA?

Just a stab, but how about the PDA's 12V car cord?.....

They want $US20 for a cord and they'll just go crazy trying to figure out a
way around the 5V regulator-in-a-cord....
