12 ga shotgun is very limited in range and due to the shell size, limited in firepower and very limited in accuracy. The 12 ga finds limited use. I carry a remington mariner with every third round a slug just in case you have to reach out and touch someone. I also carry a mini-14 folder but if you think about it... shooting at someone over 100 yards is not exactly self defense. With all the boats out there, I would bet if you put up a defense most pirates will find another vessel to steal. BTW... ALWAYS declare...I know someone whose AMMO count was a few bullets off and he was detained for a few hours in the bahamas |

Subject
Sawed off, double barrelled 10ga shot gun with a rifled slug in one barrell and "00" buck shot in the other. Illegal as hell, but deadly in close quarters. Shoot first, forget to ask the questions. What's left probably can't answer them anyway. Lew |

This request is not a joke. It is a very serious question to a very serious
issue. Piracy is very real, it is everywhere, even within our own home waters. The reasons may be drug related or simple theft, but the result can be as severe as loss of life. Now for you gunk holers that venture as far as the entrance of the bay, this information probably isn't much use, but for the serious long distance sailor see www.icc-ccs.org There you can request the latest report on Piracy from the IMO. It is very interesting reading. You will find advice as well, but firearms are not mentioned. Steve wrote in message ... What's the best boat gun to have. What should I look for in a good boat gun (Pistol & Rifles). Should you declare you have weapons aboard or just have a good stash spot for overseas cruising? Please no Wilbur answers. I'm looking for real knowledge and practical experience, not wanna-be advice. Fred |

Joe was skipper of the ill-fated, ill prepared, ill-sailed and ill-conceived pilothouse motor sailer, Red Cloud. Seven Seas Sinbad is posting from Miami Beach. That's a far cry from Texas. Ain't no way Joe could have gotten from Texas to Miami Beach unless he drove or flew. Ha ha ha ha! -- Gregory Hall |
