Default Selecting Best Refrigerator for a Boat

I receive a lot of questions asking what icebox conversion
refrigeration unit I recommend they purchase. It seems like every unit
sold has at least one application. The reason it is difficult to
answer this type of question is because there are at least 100
different refrigeration options to choose from. There are no two boats
or their owner’s refrigeration requirements the same. Here are a few
questions to consider when selecting the correct refrigeration system
for your boat, what refrigeration temperature is box to be maintained
at? Where will energy come from and is there enough to operate
refrigeration? What size compressor is needed? How will the unit
perform in the intended cruising climate weather conditions? What are
the reliability concerns and consumer reports on unit you are
considering purchasing.

With a lack of interest in manufacturing larger pleasure boat icebox
conversion refrigeration units many boats are installing more than one
compressor system to achieve greater capacity. I was ask recently on
my refrigeration forum for my opinion of Glacier Bay’s Micro HSP 12
volt refrigeration system for boats. The only information in my
library about the Micro HSP is from GB the manufacturer. I tried to
answer the request as best as I could. I would like to here from
anyone with personal extended experience with the Micro HSP unit used
in a live aboard application in a hot climate.

Hi Rich

Can you recommend a good forum that specifically discusses 'boat
refrigeration'?

Your discussion/forum site is *totally impossible* to access and I
would like to make decision on a new system for my boat.
I have both your books: Maintenance and DIY Refrig. but still need to
survey and validate what is current, etc.
(Ive totally given up trying to access your website.)

thanks

ANSWER:
There are a number of refrigeration web sites but I am only aware of
two dealing with boat refrigeration http://WWW.rparts.com and mine
http://www.kollmann-marine.com.
I am sorry you were unable to get into my Forum, we had a very good
security system installed to protect those registered as well as
eliminate Spam. The forum’s diverted spam file still generates 40
garbage messages a day. I have provided a free refrigeration help
service for 25 years. Now that I am fully retired my help and
communication is limited to email and my web site forum.

If you would like to post a refrigeration question or comment on forum
email it to me or try again to post it. If you need help I will post
it for you.

I do not understand why you can not read forum with hundreds of hits
viewing it daily. If you have something to post, email it to me. I
will copy and paste each item posted on your thread and then email
them to you.
