What you get depends on the harbor. Most harbors have public docks. If
you choose to join a yacht club or boat club in order to get launch service, you should get use the club's facilities as part of the deal. About the mooring, some harbors require certain levels of mooring maintaince. Generally speaking, a boat that breaks free of its mooring is as likely to damage other boats as itself. In Marblehead, MA, if I don't use a recognized mooring company, I must present to the harbormaster, adequate proof that I have inspected and replaced where appropriate, the various chains and connectors in the mooring system. I pay a mooring fee to the town, which gives me the right to use that part of the harbor and place a mooring, and a mooring maintaince fee to the mooring servicing company. I also pay for a yacht club to get launch service. Good Luck. Can anyone tell me what additional fees go along with owning one? I realize I will need to use my dingy to go back and forth to get to and from but do you get docking access to pickup guests, supplies, etc? Stu |
