Er...I don't think so, Charlie. Jon's been in this group for at least 3
years, and Scotty for at least 2.

At least... longer prolly... Thanks.

Well, so much for Charlie, the sockpuppet.. no more posts from me in this
thread. :-)

Neither has been an active participant for a long time, and neither has
ever
been very involved. My assesment is correct and you know it. If you were
intellectually honest (fat chance!) you would admit it. They are here now
for
one reason only. They are trolls here to disrupt. As Bush would say, you
are
either with us or against us. Pick your position and live with it.

Use net is a place where everyone gets to ask advice and give advice.

You get to decide how much that advice is worth to you.

My advice for the day is to become part of the solution, not part of
the problem. The best solution for people on an ego rant is to ignore
them.

recently got a heads up that a Baltic 43 was going to be set for

If true, then one wonders if it's the same Baltic 43 that
was donated to the Navy Academy in a state of disassembly.

The problem....obviously a unique deal and obviously too much boat for
us at present.

But it would make a great stepping stone.

... That's not
to say you can't daysail what you want, but a Baltic 43 is a true
bluewater yacht.

??? Not in the sense that most people use the term.

I'd be interested in what YOU would do if presented with this
opportunity.

Personally, I'm not interested in a Baltic 43. I like the
older 42.

One issue with the Baltic 43 is that the cockpit is NOT laid
out for casual daysailing when short handed. While two
people could sail almost any 43-footer (given reasonable
skills & equipment), this one is not going to be easy or
fun. Other than that, it's truly a super boat.

Matt O'Toole wrote:
Well as someone noted it's a huge discount. So if you like the boat and
you really want it, then go for it if you can afford it, but get a good
survey done first.

Good idea. By a real surveyor too, not an unlicensed phony
"internet captain" surveyor.

If you have so many friends who want to sail her, then you shouldn't have
trouble finding crew for daysailing, if the boat is too big to handle by
yourselves.

Well put.

As others mentioned, there is also the draft issue.

It's not.
I've decided to fly to Florida to look over the boat afterall. Last
Friday I sailed with a fellow who had some 1st hand experience with the
43 and that restarted my interest in the boat. I have to be in St.
Petersburg soon anyway to examine a sail inventory so it's all good.
As far as the 43 being hard to sail shorthanded...the fellow who
delivered one does not agree. He found her easy to handle and a "small"
43 footer overall. In spite of the draft...I'll keep my eyes wide open.
I'm off for a sail. Seems like TODAY will be the last of the season for
Heart of Gold.

There is no depth in which you won't run aground no matter your draft,
if you're coming ashore. So, I say go for it and watch the charts and
get local knowledge.

We draw nearly 7' and have absolutely no qualms about heading to the
Bahamas as quickly as we get a few more loose ends tied up.

In the meantime, we're in St. Pete and would be happy to see you aboard
if you'd like. Depending on where you're coming in, and where the
sails are, I might even give you a ride if you're not already set in
that department.

That's a kind offer, Skip. Thanks. My wife has family there so we're
all set for getting around. We're still debating the boat and the
draft. After speaking with someone who actually sailed one long
distance amd then in the CT area for a while, we're certainly more open
to the idea. For now I'm looking for a long weekend to fly down.
It's strange....this is almost exactly the same time of year we found
our Beneteau First 35s5 last year...and in the same area.
