Do you mean the Jetta? If so..you'd be limited to about 1000 lbs.... maybe a Siren (small 17' sister to the 22' Sirus. I had a new one in 1983/84 |

Dan We had pretty good luck with occasionally towing a '82 Macgregor 21 behind the 1400 cc of roaring squirrel that was our Datsun B210. BUT that was a rear-wheel drive car with standard transmission, the boat and trailer were maybe 2,000 #, and I didn't drive particularly quickly: Starts and stops required some planning. Rather than get a new car, though, I'd find a mooring some place, and drag the boat there and back once each season. Find another mooring the next year, and so forth, getting to know each area better. We also had a '66 Tempest that hardly noticed the boat was behind it. Did a lot of trailing with that, but used the boat quite a bit more when we got a mooring. Stepping and unstepping the mast gets old quickly. -- Jere Lull Xan-a-Deux ('73 Tanzer 28 #4 out of Tolchester, MD) Xan's Pages: http://members.dca.net/jerelull/X-Main.html Our BVI FAQs (290+ pics) http://homepage.mac.com/jerelull/BVI/ |

Dan Long in the tooth now - but a SouthCoast 22 will tow behind an S10 Chevy truck or a Blazer - which I suppose is similar to a VWE wagon? So I expect there are centerboard 22's that would fit your bill.... Brian Whatcott Altus OK |

Dan your approach leaves a lot to the imagination, you up for cruising on a trailerable? need a cabin? Budget? needs to be fast? sailable singlehanded? the list goes on! My favorite little boat that can be trailered easily and can be camped on easily too is a Flying Scot. they are 19 feet, beamy, stable, and have lots of room on board. There are a huge number of them available used and new, and can be towed by a Toyota Corolla or similar. good luck! Luc |

It's an open 16 foot dinghy that should weigh less than 700 lbs including trailer. The wind was quite gusty in the harbout and we were flying along at 6 knots. In fact we actually passed or paced a number of keel boats and while they were keeled over we were able to sail fairly flat without reefing the main. Must say I was impressed. BTW the owner sailed this little dinghy from Halifax to the Canso Strait, a 150 nm distance, single handed early September. see: http://www.vaxxine.com/clsailboats/cl16.htm |
