Default Magma Grill rail mount flaw..?

Does your grill always cook with a lot of soot ? We sometimes wrap up
vegetables in foil and cook them but the foil is absolutely black and
untouchable after a few minutes - am I doing something wrong with the
assembly or screwing up the gas/air mixture somehow ?

I have the propain Magma and was always having problems with the fire

going
out and a very smokey flame.

Turns out that a bug was building a cocoon inside the gas tube, between

the
regulator gas jet and the burner base.

I cleaned it out and it worked fine until the next weekend. The damn bug

or
his sibling was back.. This problem went on for about a month, until I
wrapped the air inlet with tap between uses.

I've never had that problem, though I admit the entire mount is pretty quirky.

I had a Force 10 before the Magma, which was better in every way. The mount
connected with one screw and was far better.
The Magma cooks fine, but it's very poorly designed compared to the Force 10
and other brands. We always get a laugh when setting up the grill because of
that dumb mount.
Also: The Force 10 rarely got knocked out by wind. The grill market is wide
open for better designs in the sub 200 dollar market.

Is your flame yellow? Sounds like not enough air getting into the air/gas
mixing tube.

My shore based grill has screen around the air intake to keep the critters
(usually spiders) out but my last one did not. I had a small brush on the
end of a flexible push rod that was made for cleaning the critters out of
gas grill. I got it at a hardware store I think. Works great.

Disassemble the tube going from where the regulator nozzle clips in and
undue the nut under the burner.. Run a flexiable wire thru this tube and

see
if you have some 'critters' in residence. It's hard to see because of the

90
deg. bend but if you look from both ends, you might see somethine that is
causing a air/fuel restriction.

You might also explore the burner base as well, although, in my case, I
never found that the bugs got that far.

Just and update to this thread.....I pasted it in an email to Magma asking for
a response to why this is the way it is.....glad to see I'm not the only one a
bit annoyed at the design flaw.....but I'd guess there reply will be..."oh
sorry for our ignorance...here is a free hat".....LOL

this digresses to issues of product liability (which IMO the US is famous for
passing blame for stupidity of consumers back to the manufacturer)....but, for
me, I wonder if next years model can be "new" improved" and a price raise
etc...another scamish tactic of manufacturers....why not say, "our first design
was in error and our consumers showed us an improvement"....I think this add to
the consumer confidence thingy that politician talk about......all's I know is
this...I am gonna survive this mess.....

Take a hammer and peen the end of the threaded bolt, this will stop it from
turning off. You still are able to remove the grill from the rail.

ok....anybody else have the nice rail mount for these grills?....well it
finally happened, I dropped overboard the little nut lever to tighten it

to the
rail...good thing I stock a few stainless wing nuts for such a cause (at a
whole $0.80 a piece instead of the Magma replacement part at $6)...and

putting
a lanyard on the part is a mess too......anway this bring me to my
point....WTF?....is this a stupid design flaw or what?...why in hell is it
necessary to back the nut or 'lever' off to the bitter end of the damnit
threaded rod?...I mean come on Magma....an extra 1/2 inch of rod is

workable
into the price isn;t it?..... and then to pull the pins to slide the rail
connector up the rod to get an extra 1/2 inch or so....well that is a

major
pita......rant mode off.......ok I am better now....

Surprise, surprise. Peened bolts.
This was Royce's preferred chassis
building method on the earliest Rolls Royces
- now worth more than their weight in silver.
