Lifespan of Engine not prepared for seawater - or marinising tips

Hi

Is there anyone who can advise of the expected lifespan of an Audi v6 engine
in a boat that has not been marinised (engine - not boat :-) )

Is there an easy way to marinise the engine - any hints or tips - however
basic they may seem - would be aprecciated.
