Default Broken cam shaft reliability data.

I wonder if someone has some reliably data concerning broken cam shaft on
diesel engine.
I have never seen a cam shaft to snap under normal load. The cam shaft on
my 1GM Yanmar broke in two pieces. Being a drop forged casting it requires a
fantastic impact to break in two.
Unless it is from an original hair line crack at fabrication that was not
detected at the time.

if you have the camshaft you should be able to see if it was a casting
flaw - i had a driveshaft that snapped like that and was incredibly obvious
was a manufacturing defect, the dealer didnt even discuss it when he saw it
and just replaced it.

The engine (1982 model) was rebuild a year ago. At this time I can not
determine if there was a flaw in the drop forged casting. I can only
speculate that the cam shaft broke in two because of misalignment.
