Seeking Jacksonville, FL marina info
Im considering movimg my boat from TX to Jacksonville in the spring.
Can anyone provide recommendations on marinas there? I'd prefer one with floating docks and finger piers, as well as a yard that can do a bottom job. Also, what is the tide range there? Thanks, Jay |

I have my boat at the Ortega River Boat Yard. It's a couple miles west of
Jaxville on the St John's River. I moved it from Annapolis in October, hoping to spend more time sailing this past winter. The wind has been marginal in the St John's River whenever I've gone out. It's more typical to motor over to Jacksonville Landing, tie-up, and party all night instead. I'm looking forward to getting it back to the Chesapeake in early April. I made my original arrangements w/ORBY in September. Before I arrived, it was bought out by a management company from Michigan. They have some grand plans to turn it into a delux yachting mecca during the next year but nobody expects that to happen. It's a homey place, in need of TLC, but I found the people to be friendly, the weather good, and a lot of facilities close by. I'm having some canvas work done from a guy right off the dock. There is a mechanic and maintenance facility on the property but I haven't used them for anything. Next time I may try St Augustine instead. "just me" wrote in message ... Closer is Fernandina Beach, which has a great anchorage and a pretty good city marina... hard to get a spot there, the snowbirds circle like vultures every morning waiting to pounce on any opening. Langs Marina is a well cared for marina? I doubt that even the Langs
would claim that. The one were the sailboat are is a 300 - 400 yard walk from the parking area. Marley wrote: just me wrote: have you looked/visited any marinas there that you would recommend? Spoke with Lang's today. They said marina was heavily damaged by the
hurricane and they are just beginning to re-build. It will be a few months I think before they will be able to take boats. "JR Gilbreath" wrote in message ... Langs Marina is a well cared for marina? Y'all boys haul out your charts of the South Carolina coast. Look at all the miles and miles of UNCROWDED waterways from Georgetown to Savannah to explore and enjoy. Now, look at that damned silted-up ditch they call Eastern Florida. Ask yourselves, "Why would I want a boat in that ditch?" There's 8 boats on the docks in Charleston Harbor who've found Eastern SC a new winter home.....so far. No need to curse the idiot anchored 8 ft from you when you can have a whole creek to yourself, here....(c; Yecch....Florida sucks for boating! |

Check out my website,
www.st-johns-river.com Good marinas on the Ortega as others commented and on opposite shore are the Julington Creek marinas (Julington Creek Marina and Mandarin Holiday) "just me" wrote in message ... And get nailed for property tax on your boat. They put a property tax on motorcycles, cars. boats and airplanes including foreign documented vessels, can you imagine. 5% of the BUK book value. -- Joe Joe Kovacs SV Sea Breeze |
