It wouldn't do you much good unless you had either a variable pitch
prop or one that was mismatched to the engine and thus overloading it most of the time. In the latter case, you would be steadily wrecking your engine. Unless the boat is light enough to keep going faster, putting more power into the same prop beyond a certain point won't increase performance. Sailboats don't fall into this category. Many boats, especially sail boats, have props that are poorly matched the engine and hull. If you don't think you have the performance that you should for your horsepower, you might look into this. -- Roger Long wrote in message ups.com... What i wanted was something like NoX used for gas engines. I did talk to my brother-in law who teaches diesel mechanics and design and he immediately said "Sure, you use propane injection". It seems that this is used in heavily modified high power diesels used in diesel dragsters and diesel monster trucks. He estimated perhaps a 30% increase in power just by bleeding a small amount of propane from something like a Coleman cylinder directly into the air intake. Of course, I explained that propane is heavier than air....... |
