I'm a UK yachtsman taking an E coast USA cruise next year and am thinking of laying up for the winter in Nova Scotia - it's on the way home. Where do I go to look for a good boatyard? I like them friendly and reliable and not too far from airports etc. I'm sorry, but the only place that comes to mind is Halifax. Is that a good place to look? Armdale YC employs a rail to haul, and when I inquired I was informed that a cradle of some sort must be fashioned to haul and store. There were limitations with respect to boat size, so you will need to make a direct inquiry for your particular needs. I visited the Club in 2002 and stayed there on one occasion for about 3 weeks. These are some really nice folks. Still, getting to an airport from the Club is less than simple. It happened that one of the members was quite generous with his own auto and that helped very much. There are yards in and around Chester and Lunenburg that are also quite good, but if "airport" is important, they may not work for you. -- Good luck and good sailing. s/v Kerry Deare of Barnegat http://kerrydeare.home.comcast.net/ |
