Any Nova Scotia people here?

Hello

I'm a UK yachtsman taking an E coast USA cruise next year and am
thinking of laying up for the winter in Nova Scotia - it's on the way
home.
Where do I go to look for a good boatyard? I like them friendly and
reliable and not too far from airports etc. I'm sorry, but the only
place that comes to mind is Halifax. Is that a good place to look?

Many thanks

Hi...I live in Halifax . Winter is not our best time...but not quite as
cold or snowy as most of Canada.
What did you need done on your boat? There are lots of good
boatyards/builders along the coast.

Try above if you need serious work... If you just want to haul it and do
lighter repairs, one of the clubs may be able to help.

New Brunswick?

Saint John? You could do the reversing falls and the amazing Saint
John river, Washdemoak and Grand Lakes, and on to Fredericton in the
spring, or for a winter berth.

Rothesay Yacht Club, Kennebekasis YC, St. John Marina (Ketapeck) all
come to mind in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Unfortunately in Nova Scotia, boatyards and airports are not in close
proximity.
Your best bet is probably to contact the folks at Armdale yacht club. They
are real
friendly people. Armdale Yacht club would be about 45 minutes from the
airport
with no traffic, I would guess.

Their web site can be found at:

Armdale YC employs a rail to haul, and when I inquired I was informed that a
cradle of some sort must be fashioned to haul and store. There were
limitations with respect to boat size, so you will need to make a direct
inquiry for your particular needs.

I visited the Club in 2002 and stayed there on one occasion for about 3
weeks. These are some really nice folks. Still, getting to an airport from
the Club is less than simple. It happened that one of the members was quite
generous with his own auto and that helped very much.

There are yards in and around Chester and Lunenburg that are also quite
good, but if "airport" is important, they may not work for you.
