What's the displacement of your boat? === Heavy ground tackle is the cheapest insurance you can buy, especially if you cruise in an area known for strong thunderstorms and wind squalls. Some light weight anchors have a great deal of holding power *if* they are carefully set in their preferred bottom type, and *if* the wind does not change direction during the night, and *if* there is never a need to set the anchor while the boat is moving. I've heard of people who carry a heavy anchor stowed away for extreme conditions. That's all well and good if you have time to dig out the storm anchor and get it shackled up but I personally prefer to have my best anchor on the bow and ready too deploy when needed. |
