As you may know I started over a year ago a 50+ yo guy who gathered
his old sea time, took a test, took some STCW cert classes and became
an Able Seaman

After working out of Fourchon, LA for 13+ months as an AB I quit.

With the time and tonnage gained in the bayou I now qualify for 1600
ton mate.

In a brief time I will attend a 6 month maritme school. total cost
$17,000
This condensed academy will also alow me to test without furter
training up to CM unlimited. Howerver, because i lack the unlimmited
tonnnage my Mates license will be restricted to 1600 GRT.

After loggin an additional 360 days serving as a Mate on vessels over
100 grt I will qualify to test for 1600 ton Master Oceans.

Why am I post this. In all senserity, I want every one to kno that if
you truly love the sea and want to become a better seaman but lack the
money to buy some fubar sailboat like skips you can still sail AND get
paid. Yes, there is the typical .gov red tape to manouver but it can
be done....... even at the age of 50+

So to those who want to sail........... all I can say is go do it. If
I can pull it off most anyone can... well not Skip nor Joe but most
heathy people with a 12 grade ability will do well.

Pleaes pm me if you want the details. i am here to help you be all
that you can.
So get a tatoo for a real reason not some girly butterfly unicorn, ass
antler skank tat reason... A manly reason! Get a tatoo in a foreign
port with yur drunk sailor shipmates not some frumpy estogen deprived
menopausal cow ..... Arrrrr !

Hey, Boob!

Congratulations on your progress and commitment.

What will you do with that rating, out of curiosity? I recall a
thread
hereabouts a while back about Great Lakes masters and other licenses
which
yielded enormous paychecks.

Meanwhile, however, it's a bit disingenuous (sorry to make your eyes
swim,
but I know you can do it) to suggest that anyone can sail - or get the
kind
of ratings you're going for - without some fairly serious capital.
Just
your 6mo school would buy a lot of sailboats.

As to whether Joe or I could do it, why would I want to? I'm over the
moon
doing what I am, get to meet the most interesting people, do pretty
much
what I want, when I want, and don't have to take any guff from anyone
for 13
months, or another 360 days, or that sort of stuff...

However, if it's your dream, and you're doing it, good on ya!

Some people can do it; some people can't. In the latter category is Cabin
Boy Joe of Red Cloud infamy. I wonder if perhaps Abby Sunderland is a
distant cousin of his or something. lol
