Wouldn't it be great to just find one of those bobbing about 40 miles
offshore lost overboard by some bungling crewmember off a containership?

There was one cruising around Charleston Harbor last Summer and I so wanted
to get a ride in it....What a neat boat!

sonar pings

Now there's where a passing fast attack sub could be of assistance...25 ft
under the keel.....one sonar faces UP!

The tenders on the cruise ships look just like the lifeboats on the
outside. They have bigger engines and radar with a retractable
antenna.

I would recommend that the project be entitled, "Firefighting apparatus
for
seagoing vessels."

When they were getting all the placer gold in California, they would
build dams upstream with pipelines to large nozzles, I think bigger
than anything ever used for fire fighting. They would wash every bit
of sand and gravel in a canyon downstream into the sluices. Also all
the soil and vegetation. They had the mineral rights, meaning the
right to **** it up for thousands of years to come. There is a
fountain in Arizona the puts the water up 560 feet. The ultimate
nozzle. And they think handguns are dick substitutes, but whatever.

Actually the success rate for the pirates is about 40%, and several attempts
has been avoided by the use of fire fighting canons.

Americans take ship back! - update

I heard this story break on the BBC World service early this morning, that
Somali pirates had hijacked a US flagged container ship and after a battle
lasting several hours had taken the ship,,,

Then on the way home this afternoon I hear on NPR that the American crew
had taken the ship back, but not the captain...

http://apnews.excite.com/article/200...D97EG5800.html

I wonder what happened, did the Americans, sick of terrorist jerks taking
whatever they want say "Enough, we're not going to roll over like a bunch
of underpaid Filipinos." "We're UNION, and no non-union crew is gonna run
this boat" :-)

Cheers
Martin

Looks like the capt. was freed, three of the four pirates was killed. Not
sure of the details....

Swift rescue operation left three of the Somali captors dead

All in all, I'd say Obama handled this fairly well. Took his time and
dawdled a bit, but in the end he handled it well.

I think he likes to think before he acts (and talks).
