Bull****. Lifeboats are unsinkable, will float when full of water. I
crossed the atlantic, bed about fifteen feet from a lifeboat, and got
a good look at it. Talked to the crew as well. Lowering gear is pretty
complicated. They make a point of telling the passengers that there
are two lifeboat seats per person. They don't tell you that if the
ship has a fair list, you maybe can only launch half of them.

Do you think pirates already confronted with 5"-38 guns whos adrenaline
level just barely is below the cardiac arrest stage will know this handy
bit of information as their feet get wet with the rising water? Or will
they try to flee the sinking boat, the adrenaline driving them temporarily
out of control just long enough for the SEALS to make their moves?

I bet Seals have underwater torches you can't even hear burning steel right

Lifeboats are plastic not steel. They used to be wood, not steel. The
people who sell them have websites. They still make open ones for the
smallest ships. They don't all look like a jelly bean, some even have
a mast and sail instead of an engine. They still teach sailing at the
merchant marine schools because of this. The powered ones have fuel
for 300 miles. Wm Bligh covered 4000 miles with a sail. He wrote a
book, by the way, published in paperback.

Shoot them in the head. Whats the problem, I don't see how the
pirates should beable to get with in a 1000 yards.

Being military trained, give me a rife (50cal) and the pirates would
get one chance not to get within a 1000 yard range. I can't see
how
hard this is, yes I saw the news reports were the ships carry oil
and
other flamable material and worry about fire arms aboard ship , but
if
your going in area waters where this has happened 50 times this
year.
where is the commen sense?

Yes I'm more then willing to join a crew at this time just to deal
with this problem.

Major problems with firearms on commercial vessels trying to get in
and out of port without extensive delays for firm arm inspections,
approvals, etc.

OTOH, a couple of 1,000 HP Cummins diesels hooked up to fore and aft
located fire pumps with 1,500 GPM output thru a 6"-8" nozzle is a
whole "nuther" kettle of fish.

You are grossly underestimating the flow per HP. Our jet boat got
about that much flow with a modest flathead six. Ask your local
fireman about flow per hp, and nozzle sizes, and scale it to whatever
size you want. You are correct in think that a high velocity jet of
water can be a effective weapon.

I dare you to try to thin the hull of an unsinkable fiberglass boat
with a torch. Ever use one?

The last ships with 5in38 guns were the Iowa class battleships.

Details.

When the project becomes funded is the time for engineering.

I would recommend that the project be entitled, "Firefighting apparatus for
seagoing vessels."

Bull**** is right..... This a "LifeRaft" inflatable and is of Rubberized
Cloth Construction. Navy Seals could do a very slick job on this rescue.
I was VERY surprised that the Navy was NOT paying attention when the
skipper jumped overboard, and didn't shoot the raft you once he had left
the LifeRaft. Some really "Screwed the Pouch" for missing that.... The
Navy should bring a Seal Team to the area, and launch them from a Nuke
Sub, 50 feet blow the raft. Put a small hole in the Air Chambers of the
raft, from below, and then pull the pirates underwater,as they abandon
the raft. The pirates weapons are useless underwater, so the Seals would
be in Full Control of the situation, and then have the Sub just surface
right under the sinking raft.... This isn't Rocket Science, and IS a
practiced senerio that Seals train for....

Most, if not all, Naval vessels have qualified divers aboard. I don't know
that your scenario is exactly correct, but in general, I would agree with
it. I would leave the details of the operation to the experts on the
scene -- but I WOULD demand that the situation be dealt with and the pirates
eliminated.

I think that would be perfect!
