I've repacked mine a few times while she's in the water. Just get
some bicycle inner tube rubber and wrap it tight around the shaft and
the stern tube. Stops all the water from coming in.

I presume you mean on the outside of the hull. My shaft comes out
through a smooth opening with no projecting stern tube. Or were you
thinking of something else?
