Default Merc Shifter versus Teleflex

I have a dual Merc Quicksilver shifter on my boat now and had the shift
cables replaced in the 04' season with Volvo Penta cables. There still
seams to be alot of play at the shifter end of things, will going to
the teleflex dual shifter give me any more control or less slop, or are
they not as good as the Merc Quicksilver to begin with? Thanks!
