Diesel smell
Time and Air, preferably warm, and lots of it (I have used an old furness blower). Solvents like acetone speed the process. All the usual precautions apply! Regards, Ron I don't recieve e-mail at this address because of spam. E-mail me at crtsrATmsnDOTcom. |

If you really want to get rid of the odor for good instead of just knocking it down for a while, soak the wood at least overnight in a STRONG solution of detergent(a heavy duty degreaser would be even better--and water...ONLY detergent and water--no bleach or other cleaning products. The diesel/slash oil has penetrated the wood...only a detergent/degreaser that also penetrates the wood and emulsifies all the oil so it can be flushed out can get rid of it. Rinse VERY thoroughly with clean water. Leave all lockers and hatches open so that plenty of fresh air can circulate. If that doesn't get rid of all the odor, do it again(the whole "treatment," not just the rinse. Diesel smell
Good reason to have the bilge painted perhaps before the spills happen
Thinking if you could also displace the diesel with another solvent such as acetone or something real volatile. But then what about the fumes and risk of fire. Perhaps if the boat is on land it would be easier to clean the bilge. I would also think of painting it even now. "Duke-it" wrote in message ... Diesel smell
We've had good luck using a deodorizing candle to get rid of diesel smell.
They are hard to find, not a scented candle at all but sold (usually in catalogues) as a deodorizing candle. Good luck. Dave "Scott Downey" wrote in message ...
