I've ordered from Raka and found the Raka #127 resin and #350 no-blush
hardener ideal for clear-coating fiberglass. It's a less-viscious,
softer epoxy that some others. Most similar to MAS in my experience.
Quick shipping. Good prices.

I used Raka (for the most part) when I built an 11' skiff.. works very
nice. Once major difference between Raka and Mas (as I ended up getting
some Mas to finish up), out of the can viscosity of Raka is noticable
thinner, so I would definately prefer to use that as a first coat over
bare wood.

FGCI is fine, but it is room-temperature only (60F or higher for proper
cure). Otherwise, it's fine.

Hmm, never found that. Even though I'm in FL (north), I've used it down to
the 40's with great success. In fact, it's the most forgiving epoxy I've ever
used. I've even laid up molded boats with it. Once, I mixed a batch of 2:1
backwards! No more beer with lunch ). I realized it and didn't use it, but
it kicked and cured normally and seemed as strong as the leftovers I have from
normal mixes. I used to be a die hard West man, then tried MAS which was very
inconsistent (for me). Now I stick with the FGCI which is cheap and excellent
material (no affiliation).

John,
I find RAKA's '3 gallon kit' to be the most economical for 'all around'
use/inventory. Since Larry equates everything to '1 quart' increments, it is
very easy to 'mix-n-match' the order to different 'combinations' of basic
resin & hardeners.

It is also very nice to have a 'kit' of his '5-Minute' stuff on hand. Not so
much for boatbuilding . . . it's done many a repair around the house, yard,
boats, etc.

Regards & Good Luck,
Ron Magen
